Chelsea’s Challenge: Endless Summer

After taking a break during the Summer of Creativity, Chelsea’s Challenge is back with a new theme for the month of September: Endless Summer! These three gender-neutral trends are subsets of WGSN’s Protect & Connect trend story for S/S 24. WGSN writes of this overarching theme, “Protect & Connect is driven by the importance of community and a sense of security. This inspires a stronger focus on emotive textures, expressive colours and nods to nostalgia. Protect & Connect champions nature, community and culture, with a focus on wellness themes, gardening graphics and handmade craft influences.”

Check out the full post here which includes three inspiring trend boards and links to TDL tutorials that will help get the creative juices flowing.

Upcoming Event: Ultimate Guide to Repeats Group-Study

Looking for a more creative way to learn repeats? This is the course for you. After understanding why repeats are so crucial to our industry in Lessons One, Two, and Three, you will begin to explore various repeat techniques through Lessons Four through Eight.

Starting in Lesson Four, you’ll receive a trend-driven design brief focused on a particular pattern style. You are then encouraged to create a pattern concept and put it into repeat using the technique covered in that week’s lesson. This course structure will provide real-world experience, using different repeat techniques while creating new artwork for your professional portfolio.

This group-study includes access to WGSN for the first 290 participants. Register here.

Changes to the Weekly Coloring Hour

We began the Coloring Hour in 2020 during the Pandemic when everyone was locked inside and using zoom for communication and connection. It was a wonderful way to gather as a community and discuss the changing world, our families, art, design, and other current events or creative struggles.  However we have realized that life has returned to a more normal fast paced flow with less time at home to meet for zoom chats and therefore we are going to scale back the coloring hour to a once a month meet up, we will have details soon about the date and time for September! We would love to have you join us, look out for more information soon =) There will not be a coloring hour this week.
