New Studio Brief & Chelsea’s Challenge
This month we would like to help Lab members get involved in our new design brief for Pattern Observer Studio, so we’ve decided to run the same theme for this month’s Chelsea’s Challenge. There is no requirement to participate in the studio brief, you can certainly just take part in the challenge to build a collection for your portfolio without submitting to the studio at the end of the month. It’s up to you!
This year for Pattern Observer Studio has been quieter than usual with Coronavirus cancelling trade shows and client meetings, but we are SUPER excited that Branded Licensing (Melissa’s licensing agency) is planning to participate in the virtual Blue Print show in September, which will provide us the opportunity to show some new Pattern Observer Studio work! Melissa has informed us that the potential clients at Blue Print are broad, but skewed towards paper products, so this is where we’d like to focus our energies.
If you plan to submit your patterns for Blue Print, you must first read through our studio brief overview and our submission guidelines in order to ensure your patterns are created to our studio specifications. Otherwise please feel free to proceed with the challenge as you would any other month!

Textile Prints with Fizah Malik: Ditsy Florals
We are so excited to announce that we just released a new tutorial in the Lab by the fabulous Fizah Malik! This is the first in a series of tutorials that she has created for the Lab that will be released over the next few months.
New: TDL Community Connect
Our TDL Video Chat room will now be open all day, everyday. Feel free to stop by while you are working on a project or to simply chat with your fellow members!
In the future we might need to have specific meeting times, but I wanted to open this opportunity up to people across various time zones and with different schedules.
Weekly Art Critiques. Please join the TDL community on THURSDAY at 1 PM Eastern for a live art critique. Our art critiques are fun events where Lab members come together to review artwork and ask questions about pattern design, marketing and sales. A registration link will be emailed the morning of the critique and will also be posted in our Weekly Art Critique forum. Textile Design Lab members can watch past critiques here.
