Please enjoy this week’s TDL News!!
Most often with Chelsea’s Challenge we invite you to develop a pattern collection geared toward any market of your choosing, but every so often we like to switch things up and focus on a particular market. This month we are excited to delve into the activewear market for the Spring/Summer ’19 season. Here are each of the three directions:
1) Hiding in Plain Sight – Explore the juxtaposition between natural and urban environments by playing with layering.
2) Sporty – This bold, graphic trend takes classic sports pieces and reworks them in a sophisticated palette.
3) Soft Nature – With a color palette featuring desert-inspired hues, this trend draws inspiration from travels, extreme terrains, and weathered environments.
Do your patterns always seem to fall short of your vision? Before long you start doubting your work, trying too hard to make something happen, and eventually you end up losing interest in the entire project. It doesn’t have to be this way.
In this 7-week course we’re sharing the exercises and techniques we use to bring our vision to life and create the patterns we see in our mind’s eye. Our Textile Design Lab team is always experimenting and coming up with “go-to techniques” that make our work appeal to clients and buyers. We know these techniques will do the same for you!
We ran this course last year and it was a hit! This year we have 7 NEW tutorials for you, as well as new design challenges and events. This event is FREE for TDL members and you can register here.
Each month we welcome a guest expert into the Textile Design Lab to share an exclusive training with our members. This is such a vast industry, covering so many markets and specialties, and we love hearing from various experts and learning from their years of experience.
This month we are thrilled to welcome Heather Powers, a talented rug designer and creative organizer. We can’t wait to share Heather’s guest expert training later this month in the Lab, but today we invite you to learn more about this inspiring designer in this Pattern Observer interview. We offer these interviews for all designers to benefit from and hope that you find it be as inspiring and informative as we do! Read the interview here.
We are thrilled to announce that designers Lise Gulassa (@Lise) and MaryJane Mitchell (@maryjane-mitchell) will be joining our Textile Design Lab team of industry experts! Each will be checking the forum twice a week and responding to your industry questions, giving feedback on artwork and supporting you as you continue to grow and master the textile design industry.
Lise and MaryJane have both been featured on the Pattern Observer blog in the past and we invite you to read these insightful interviews to learn more about your new mentors!
Let’s give Lise and MaryJane a warm welcome into our Lab community!
