We are excited to announce that our home decor expert, Laura Olivia, will be joining us for a live training event on February 27th at 10am Eastern. Laura will be discussing trends and sharing her tips for researching and incorporating trends into your work!
Laura established her surface pattern design studio back in 2010 and has since worked with clients in the interiors, stationery, fashion and beauty product industries all over the globe. She focuses on supplying designs to the interiors and soft furnishings industry and has worked on projects in Mauritius, USA, Asia and Europe.

Design Opportunity with Pattern Observer Studio – Florals for Surtex!
We are so pleased to announce that Chelsea and I will be attending SURTEX for the first time this coming May, and we’ll be bringing a select amount of Textile Design Lab member artwork along with us!
This is going to be an exceptional experience, as we will be able to present some of our members’ artwork to the buyers and licensees attending the show and also have the opportunity to meet so many people within the community which we hope will lead to future opportunities for our members as well.
Would you like us to take your work to the show? You can read more about this opportunity here.
Upcoming Event: Art of Portfolio Curation Group Study
Deciding what artwork to show isn’t always easy, but having a system enables you to make more confident decisions.
In the Art of Portfolio Curation the Textile Design Lab team shares the exercises and techniques that they use to curate their artwork and see the “holes” in their portfolios.
The course is already posted to the Lab, but signing up for the group-study gives you access to bonus emails. It’s a fun way to stay motivated and work with a supportive group of TDL members!
This event is FREE for all Textile Design Lab members and the first email will be released on Monday, March 5th. Members register here.
In this new video tutorial Chelsea walks you step by step through the process of creating a loose, painterly abstract floral with gold accents. She’ll show you how to combine hand-painted motifs with digital painting effects to achieve an end result like the one you see in the image on the left.
If you are struggling to get started with this month’s design challenge try creating an abstract floral using Chelsea’s technique and then apply the “Recycled” theme to your final collection.
Weekly Art Critique Please join Michelle for our live art critique held THURSDAY at 1 PM Eastern. This is a fun event where Lab members come together to review artwork and ask questions about pattern design, marketing and sales. A registration link will be emailed out early on Thursday morning and will also be posted in our Weekly Art Critique forum. Textile Design Lab members can watch past critiques here.
