Happy 2019! To start the year off, we are loving this trend for AW 20/21 that we found on WGSN focusing on the activewear and outdoor market. As WGSN reports: “Tech-glam will become the new ath-luxe as activewear takes on an eveningwear feel, with luxurious fabrics and sparkling embellishments.”
As pattern designers, we get to tackle the question of how to speak to this trend and apply it to surface design. To start off, try looking to current trends in womenswear and brainstorming ways to make them more “ath-luxe.” This could be through a more vibrant, active color palette, adding a digital effect, or perhaps adding a grid or geometric overlay or another “sporty” looking technique.
